Lake Bled
Local guide

Bled, by people who actually live here.

We've put together our honest favourites — the places we send our own friends to.

Things to do

Row to Bled Island

Hire a traditional pletna boat and ring the wishing bell — best at sunrise when the lake is still.

Vintgar Gorge

A wooden walkway over emerald water, 15 min by car. Go before 9am to beat the crowds.

Hike up Mala Osojnica

30 minutes up, the postcard view of the island and castle. Bring trail shoes.

Bled Castle at dusk

Skip the day queue, arrive at 7pm for golden light and an empty courtyard.

Where to eat

Gostilna Murka

Slovenian classics in a wooden cottage — order the štruklji and a glass of Cviček.

Vila Prešeren

Lakeside terrace, perfect for a long Sunday lunch and a slice of original kremšnita.

Pizzeria Rustika

Wood-fired pizzas locals actually go to. Cash works best.

Slaščičarna Šmon

The original 1953 Bled cream cake. Take one home.

Hidden spots

Ojstrica viewpoint

Even better than Mala Osojnica and almost empty. 20 min hike from the rowing center.

Lake Bohinj

30 min by car. Wilder, quieter, and arguably more beautiful — pack a swimsuit.

Pokljuka plateau

Pine forest trails an hour above town. Cool in summer, cross-country skiing in winter.

Babji Zob cave

Guided tour into a limestone cave system — go with a warm jacket.
